our story
We’ve been serving West Michigan since the early 1950s, and it all started when Henry Diedering arrived from the Netherlands. After settling in Grand Rapids, Henry saw a need for the wholesome ingredients and herbs he had known back home and decided to open a storefront on Wealthy St. to provide them. A few stores and a couple of generations later, Henry’s legacy lives on as Harvest Health Foods continues to serve West Michigan as a destination for the utmost in natural foods and supplements.

1950
Humble Beginnings
Henry Diedering arrives from the Netherlands with his soon-to-be wife, Tena, and they begin their lives together in America.
1952
We Begin
Henry buys bread route under the name “Stonemill Products” and begins selling wholesome, minimally processed bread door-to-door. Soon, a small storefront opens on Wealthy Street.
1957
New Storefront
Henry moves into 1944 Eastern Ave., his second and larger store front, and soon changes the company name to Harvest Health Foods.
1971
Expansion
Seeing demand grow for more whole ingredients and herbal remedies, Henry expands his location at Eastern Ave. into the vacant storefront next door, doubling his space.
1991
Second Generation
After working together for many years, Henry’s daughter, Cathy, takes over as owner, keeping family at the heart of the company. In 1997, Cathy’s husband, Henry, joins her in the business.
1998
One Becomes Two
With a desire to serve a greater measure of the Grand Rapids community, Henry and Cathy open the Cascade location.
2004
Two Becomes Three
Broadening their vision, Henry and Cathy open a third location in Hudsonville.
2019
Third Generation
Having left their mark, Henry and Cathy hand ownership over to their daughter, Emily, and her husband, Mitch, who carry on the legacy of family and integrity.
2023
Fourth Store
Emily and Mitch take serving West Michigan even further and expand to the lakeshore, opening a fourth location in Holland.
Today
Harvest Health Foods is proud to carry on a legacy born more than 70 years ago. With four stores and counting in West Michigan, over 100 employees, and a commitment to service-driven growth and uncompromising values, we look forward, with gratitude, to a bright and healthy future.

Our product ingredients are evaluated against a list of over 175 banned ingredients to be free from the following:

High-fructose corn syrup
Partially hydrogenated oils
Our produce is 100% USDA Certified Organic.
Our dairy and meat do not contain added hormones and are free from routine antibiotic use.
Our flours are not bleached, nor are they bromated.
Our body care products are cruelty-free and meet our Healthy Beauty Standards.
We support the Non-GMO Project.
